Cairo

We've landed in Cairo, its 3 am and the streets are bustling with activity. We're on the last leg of Ramadan so once the sun sets the Egyptians will come out in force and pack every conceivable shwarma joint. The guys manning cash machine at the local Kazaz seem more like market makers surrounded by 15 eager diners exchanging bills for pounds.

Tron and Troy Battle Royale

Chillin' on an architectural dig site

There was no shade to be had and it takes about 2 hours to see these babies so we got baksheeshed by the sun!

Kiev

Left or right?

Wandering around downtown Kyiv. Great architecture. Folks here will buy a few beers from street merchants, find a spot to sit along the promenade and drink the night away

Some random building. opera house I think....I want a bust like this when I grow up

I found a long lost Czech beer as well as an old belgian white I used to like. beers are a buck here.

The Metro here is made out of old soviet bomb shelters. It took us a few minutes to ride this escalator down many stories.

Iceland

Why Iceland? Why not! Good food, good race and crappy weather. I arrive in August to find myself in 8°C weather, prime running conditions. As we step out of the airport the fresh air begins to hit us and within 5 minutes our eyes start adjusting to the larger horizon. So much empty space! We get our bib numbers from the stadium and carb it up before crashing at the hotel.

Race day! My chip time was 2:05... oh well, better luck next time. Roger did it in 2:14, which was a half-hour faster than his T.O. time…props!

We spend the rest of the week recovering at the Blue Lagoon and checking out some of the natural wonders Iceland has to offer.
